Welcome to Troop 730! About Us Troop 730 is based in Diamond Bar, CA, but we also have many members from surrounding communities including Chino Hills, Pomona, Rowland Heights, San Dimas, and Walnut. We are associated with Venture Crew 73, and are part of the Golden Eagle District, San Gabriel Valley Council. Troop 730 is self-chartered by the Parents of BSA Troop 730, Diamond Bar. We meet at Calvary Chapel, Golden Springs on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 PM. Our meetings are run by student leaders and include instruction on merit badges, practicing Scouting skills, planning outings, and other special projects throughout the year.

Troop 730 has been recognized as a Quality Unit for over five consecutive years, and has been providing an excellent program since 1965 - longer than any other unit in the area. To date, 65 young men have earned the rank of Eagle from Troop 730. We have a very active Troop Committee comprised of current parents and trained leaders as well as long-time dedicated leaders whose sons have completed the rank of Eagle, and continue to contribute their expertise and support. Our troop has registered merit badge counselors in most areas of instruction, and our Troop and Venture Crew conduct popular Merit Badge Day programs several times a year. While experienced, trained adult leadership is key to our scouts safety and success, all troop meetings, outings, and activities are planned and run by the scouts themselves. The boys elect their student leaders twice a year. Because our troop is large and run by the boys, our meetings might appear chaotic and a bit spirited at times. As of January 25, 2011, Troop 730 has 89 registered scouts and 42 parent and trained adult leaders. A number of older scouts are also active in Venture Crew 73. Our Program Troop 730 is a high
adventure unit. Simply put, we do more than just car camping - a
whole lot more! Our unit does a lot of backpacking, hiking, cycling,
rock climbing, canoe and kayaking, exploring caves, fishing, and
more. Have you ever pitched a tent in the snow and stayed the
night? Our boys have! Our Venture Crew has hiked to the bottom
of the Grand Canyon and to the top of Mount Whitney. Sound like
fun? It is! However, these activities require a lot of
training. The leadership of Troop 730 believes strongly that our boys need to
know the basic Scouting skills, with a special emphasis on First Aid
and Safety Skills. These skills are part of the requirements that a
boy completes on the path toward the rank of First Class. By the time
a boy earns his First Class rank, he should be well prepared for any of
the adventures our unit has to offer. Because our unit emphasizes these basic Scouting skills,
earning the rank of First Class is considered to be a great
accomplishment. Although it is possible for a boy to earn
the rank of First Class within his first year of Scouting, most of the
boys in Troop 730 need more time to complete this accomplishment. Often
our boys take eighteen months to two years to earn their First Class
rank. Our unit also encourages boys to be involved in additional
activities outside of Scouting. We have a large number of boys in
band programs and a variety of sports. Often these boys need to miss some
Troop activities. Although these activities can lengthen the time it
takes to make rank advancements, our leaders are always ready to work with
boys when then can participate in Troop
activities. One thing is clear - the boys of Troop 730 get all that Scouting has to offer! Advancement and Success in Scouting One of the eight methods of Scouting is advancement. The
requirements for the ranks of Tenderfoot through First Class prepare boys
to take full advantage of all that Scouting has to offer. The
requirements for Star, Life, and Eagle focus on service to others and
developing leadership skills. Troop 730 follows these four steps to
advancement:
